Steve Shapiro Creative Extraordinaire

Blogging, Creativity, Work

We all meet people that want to help us. We listen to what they have to say then go about our lives. Then we meet someone that makes us really stop and change our direction. I’ve just met that person: Steve Shapiro.

Steve contacted me after I left a comment on his blog, wondering if I wanted to meet and exchange ideas. I was delighted and said yes. There weren’t many expectations flying around my head because I didn’t want to get my hopes up. It could have been simply a short meeting that was just a nice get together, which would have been fine, but the stars aligned to make the meeting much more fruitful.

We started off by explaining how we got to where we were, then we jumped right into the best ways that I could help people. I told him that I had been with Toastmasters for the past two and a half years and I would like to take my message to groups of people. We brainstormed some ways of tailoring my message to people who would value my knowledge.

The whole lunch was an inspiring meeting which helped me begin to see why Steve helps people like me. He’s able to connect with people, which also helps him because like he said, “Talking to you helps me come up with new ideas.”

If I am successful in the public speaking realm like I expect to be, then Steve will benefit from my bragging about his help. As the old saying goes, “one hand washes the other.” That’s the key to being successful in any industry: connecting people to new ideas even if they aren’t your own.

This is the first “shout out” to Steve, of what I expect to be many, for helping me get a better grasp on how to use my material to make myself successful.

My favorite thing about the whole meeting was…

He didn’t push any of his ideas on me. He allowed us to have a creative dialogue that hopefully helped open both of our eyes to new possibilities.
